If you live in Florida, you know just how pesky and annoying mosquitoes can be year-round. Unfortunately, their bites can cause more harm than just itchiness and discomfort. Many diseases, known specifically as mosquito-borne diseases, can be spread to humans through a mosquito bite. Read how to treat mosquitoes, mosquito prevention and how to get rid of mosquitoes in Jacksonville, St Johns and St Augustine, FL.

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), mosquito-borne diseases include:

  • Zika Virus
  • West Nile virus
  • Malaria
  • Dengue fever
  • Chikungunya virus

The symptoms of these diseases can range from being mild to severe, and, in some cases, even cause death.

You can play a huge part in protecting your family and your customers and employees from these diseases by preventing mosquitoes from living and reproducing around your home or business. Mosquitoes frequently lay eggs in or near standing water. Therefore, by simply turning over, removing, or covering standing water, you’ll decrease their population. CDC’s website provides great tips for places to search for standing water, such as ditches that are being blocked by debris, ruts, equipment, buckets, bottles, tires, and barrels. If you have little ones, make sure to keep those water tables drained and sandboxes covered when they’re not being used. Also, insect repellent, long sleeve shirts, netted hats, and screened windows and doors are helpful in preventing mosquito bites.

If you’re still having an issue with mosquitoes after taking these preventive measures, Crawford Pest Control is here to help you! The mosquito service that we provide is a two-phased approach where we focus on both:

  • The reproductive cycle of mosquitoes
  • The adult population of mosquitoes

By applying an insect growth regulator (IGR), we effectively break the life cycle of mosquitoes. Concurrent with the IGR application, we will also apply a microencapsulated insecticide treatment that will control existing and new mosquitoes introduced to the property. These treatments target shrubs, trees, shaded areas, fence lines, tree lines, and other mosquito harborage areas. For this treatment, we use an Ultra-Low Volume Backpack Mister to ensure fine particles of treatment persist in targeted areas for 30 days or longer. For larger commercial and residential clients managing water sources within the property boundaries, we will also apply larvicides in strategic bodies of water to prevent mosquito larvae from becoming adults.
